Politics is a term used to describe the arena to which decisions are made for a group or people. This term is usually used to describe the decision making of governments and authoritative powers. However, politics can also be used to describe decision making in basic form, to which opinions, actions, and intentions are taken into consideration. Politics exists everywhere, including in relationships in general, since people are brought up in an environment where it dictates their every move. People engage in politics without even realizing they are doing it. For example, in education, religion, business, and families, politics is used to make decisions on behalf of the masses. In different countries politics is recognized in its own unique way. The policies of governments around the world are different as well as the decision making processes they engage in. The term itself is a Greek word that was originally noticed as a politic. The great Aristotle used the term to describe the way in which groups of people should govern themselves. In one way or another countries have modeled themselves after his model.

Politics exists in societies that are less civilized or primitive. In many of these societies politics rules over the natural order of how people coexist with one another. Although the way politics is carried out may be different, the decision making process is still regulated. For example, the societies in which natural objects are used to create boundaries, like the totem, people are categorized, and social order is addressed. The Aborigines are people that use totems as a sign of a family or group, and distinguishes them from one another. This stops incest and marriage within close groups or family from occurring. Marriage for these people is normal and natural, a decision of which is regulated through a government of sorts. People that do not follow this norm are shunned upon. This brings together religion or beliefs and the natural law of the people. These two factors are used in all groups to regulate politics and human behavior.

In more modern politics, the state and property of individuals is what regulates human behavior. The state is often formed as a result of war, rebellion, and revolution. This makes it vital that all new states form a military to protect them from invasion and establish order. Monarchies in which kings ruled the people have noticeably successful both politically and in war. Constitutional monarchies have been known to fail much quicker, since people usually follow the lead of those they chose to lead. In many of these institutions, a group aided the king in carrying out the politics of a country. The right to property is given to every individual so that they can enjoy material things. Property started off as something to be gained, however as time progressed property was used as inheritance. Governments began taking control of those that could hold property, which created a status system among many civilizations. These roots of politics helped shape the way it is influential in modern times.

Politics in a state is regulated by a justice system that derived from the authoritative of the military. The need for peace and order is a priority. The law is formed based off of the idea that obedience is necessary. Those that break the law or engage in criminal activity are subjected to punishments. As a part of politics this system serves as regulation. The justice system is a new form of the totem and other natural regulators of human behavior. In the modern world, the courts are superior to individuals that break it. Civilizations began to keep records of people and occurrences to set precedents for generations that follow. In addition, the courts were formed to enforce this law throughout different societies. The politics of the people is now regulated through the governments.

The enactment of laws through legislation and the need for political representation brings politics to the modern day. Today in the United Sates politics is regulated by those authorities that create laws. The political system is made up of political parties that are overwhelmingly two sided. The republican and democratic parties are the two main stances people take. Politics is carried out through elections, debates, and decisions made by people within these parties. In the United States politics is placed in the hands of the people to decide who regulates them. Although they feel a sense of authority and input for being able to pick the individuals that are included, the final say is left up to elected officials.

In the United Sates politics can be studied through the subject known as political science. This study of politics, covers the political systems of both civilized and primitive groups of people throughout history. The ideas and philosophies of individuals like Aristotle, Karl Marx, and influential kings, queens, and rulers are used to understand different types of politics. The importance of political economy, military strength, and public administration are focused on in the study of politics as well. Individuals that graduate with degrees in this subject can work as politicians and or law enforcers.

In the United States democrats believe in government involvement and accountability. The politics of a common democrat includes advocating for welfare, government assistance, education, constitutional rights, and equal opportunities. Republicans, although placed on the opposite side of politics, believe in many of the same things like education, constitutional rights, equal opportunities, and government assistance. However, they believe in less government involvement, and self accountability. These attributes often associate republican politics with pulling ones self up by the boot straps. The politics of political parties often dictate how the country is run. Over the years the ideas of each group has changed, making loyalty to these groups less important. Politics is a driving force behind decisions made in life through many different instances. Government is most widely recognized, even though politics exists everywhere in most situations.

It is almost if politics is a trait that comes to groups naturally in order to progress or collaborate on an idea or movement. It is easy for one person do function but much more difficult for groups to if there is no social order, expectation, or politics to obey.
